With millions of kids at home from school closures and extended spring breaks, finding some fun but educational Easter activities for kids doesn’t have to be a difficult task. While home, it’s important to make sure their days are filled with fun, education, and include play too. Easter is around the corner and it’s a good idea to include this upcoming Holiday as part of their learning fun.
What is Easter anyway? Easter is a Christian Holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated by millions of Christians on the first Sunday following the full moon that occurs on or just after the spring equinox.
So what do eggs have to do with the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Well, Lent precedes Easter and during this time, Christians were to fast and not eat meat or animal products including eggs. So people hard-boiled their eggs from their chickens to store them during Lent. The egg decorating started around the year 1290 with Edward I giving those decorated eggs to the royal attendants for Easter. This evolved to people giving them as gifts to church as offering on Good Friday.
During the modern times, this egg decorating became part of the Easter tradition. Adults hid eggs for the kids to find and kids decorated eggs as part of the tradition. And now, we’re making it part of the kids’ education too.
